This now iconic model of Sydney is located under a glass floor on the ground level of the beautiful Customs House Building at Circular Quay. It has been an attraction for locals and tourists alike for two decades and Modelcraft have curated and updated it since it was first displayed on Level 4 of the Customs House Building prior to the Sydney 2000 Olympics. For Modelcraft, this project is a time capsule of model making and model making techniques that is constantly evolving. The original model was mainly handmade and machined using timber and solid acrylic. A few key buildings where given special attention with hand cut, cnc milled and laser cut facades. Over time as technology has changed, so have the construction methods used for the updates and in recent years 3D printing has become a more refined and financially viable option to consider. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for this project as it is one we are extremely proud to be involved with.
